Mr. Ashok Kumar Singh, the founder secretary of Savera Foundation, used to work as Community mobiliser in an organization based in the vision of Bharat Ratna Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Narayan, had spent 20 years with the Tribal and dalits residing in the midst of forest of Giridih and Koderma district of Jharkhand.
In the year 2000, the state of Bihar was bifurcated into two separate states - Jharkhand and Bihar and our working area fell under the jurisdiction of Jharkhand. But the permissible working area of the organisation he was engaged in remained in Bihar. Responding to the needs of the people in Jharkhand and his passion of serving the underserved, Severa Foundation took birth on 22nd June 2006.
Savera Foundation has been steadfast in its commitment to the welfare of communities in Giridih and Koderma districts of Jharkhand. Our journey began with a focus on education, driven by the realization that countless tribal and Dalit children were deprived of their right to learn, often caught in the cycle of mica scrap collection or lost in the wilderness in search of sustenance.
We embarked on a mission to change this narrative, rallying parents to recognize the transformative power of education in breaking the chains of poverty. Through our concerted efforts, we have marshalled resources to organize, strengthen, and empower communities, fostering the formation of Kissan clubs, youth clubs, and self-help groups (SHGs).
At the heart of our approach lies the belief in nurturing leadership skills among survivors, instilling ecological consciousness in children, and championing community-led actions. We encourage volunteerism and collectivism, recognizing their pivotal role in building resilient, environmentally sustainable villages.
Furthermore, we are dedicated to promoting food sovereignty by empowering indigenous communities to spearhead initiatives that prioritize access to culturally appropriate, locally sourced nutritious food. Our endeavours extend to nurturing the cognitive development of children through creches, revitalizing water sources to replenish village water levels, and establishing remedial centres and libraries to bolster educational opportunities.
None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated team, whose tireless efforts drive our mission forward, and the generosity of our supporters and donors, whose contributions fuel our initiatives and enable us to make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.
Together, with the support of our dedicated team and the unwavering commitment of our communities, we are forging a path towards a brighter and equitable future for all.
